Results of Cal-IPC survey on cost of weed work

Cal-IPC thanks the eighty-four agencies and organizations who helped them estimate the cost of weed work in California. Cal-IPC has created a full-color flyer that summarizes the results, a link can be found on the PlantRight website here (click on the link for “$80 million”). The final total, extrapolated to a statewide number from your data, came to $82 million in direct costs for control, monitoring, mapping, and outreach. Of course, the indirect costs are much larger. Christiana and I helped Cal-IPC stakeholders to distribute the flyer to every state legislator at the Invasive Weeds Awareness Day at the Capitol on 3/31 – and it was well-received as an effective outreach tool. A detailed description of the study, including on economic impacts, will be published in the Cal-IPC News in May. Please feel free to distribute this flyer as you feel appropriate.
